Rembrance Sunday 2024 is on 10th November
On 11th November at 11am we also remember when the guns fell silent at the end of the 'war to end all wars'.
Please donate to the Royal British Legion and wear your poppy with pride.
Eighty years ago 61st Reconnaissance Regiment were on the frontline in the Netherlands, near Arnhem, carrying out daily armoured car patrols to Opheusden on the Nederrijn:
"This battered village is unoccupied, abandoned by the enemy and only entered daily by our cars, an American and usually a German patrol. The entire area is heavily mined (Schu-mines mainly - German anti-personnel mine with a wooden body making it difficult to detect with metal detectors), and the Americans (101st Airborne Division) suffer almost daily casualties from them."
" 'C' Squadron relieved 'A' today. The relief was unfortunately marred by a stray mortar bomb which burst alongside a 'C' Squadron carrier killing 1 Other Rank and wounding 4." From 61st Reconnaissance Regiment war diary
This blog covers the history of 61st Reconnaissance Regiment and one young Lieutenant in particular.
We will remember them
